Complete the WordsRead in Daily LifeRead an Academic Passage

Use the surrounding passage to reconstruct unfinished words. Read the whole sentence before deciding which letters are missing: grammar, meaning and word form all provide clues. This task rewards careful reading rather than isolated vocabulary recall. Enter only the missing letters and use the keyboard to move between blanks. Work steadily within the section timer, then review your accuracy in the report. During a full practice, these responses also contribute to the first module result used to choose your second Reading module. The practice routing rule is an estimate, not the official adaptive algorithm.

Listen and Choose a ResponseConversations, Announcements and Academic Talks

Hear a short spoken prompt and select the response that best fits the situation. Pay attention to the speaker’s intention, not only to words that sound familiar. A useful response may answer a request, clarify a plan or acknowledge information. Audio plays without a seek control so you can practice listening attentively the first time. The answer timer starts after playback. Keep headphones at a comfortable volume and run the speaker check first. Review your scored answers later to understand why a tempting choice did not fit the actual conversational purpose.

Build a SentenceWrite an EmailWrite for an Academic Discussion

Arrange the supplied chunks into a grammatical sentence that fits the context. Read the other speaker’s line first, then look for the structure needed to answer it. Pay attention to subject and verb relationships, question order and clauses that belong together. You can select or drag chunks and undo a choice before moving on. This objective task is checked against the expected sentence when you request scoring. Review mistakes for recurring grammar patterns, then practice those patterns in your own sentences so you can recognize the structure without depending on a familiar example.

Listen and RepeatTake an Interview

Listen carefully to the sentence, wait for the response cue and repeat what you heard within the recording window. Try to preserve both the words and their order while speaking clearly at a natural pace. The task combines short-term memory with pronunciation, so missing a word and pronouncing it unclearly can lead to different feedback. In the homepage sentence demo you can inspect word-level results without signing up. Both the demo and test stream your response for real-time feedback, targeting a result within 2 seconds after recording ends. A verified account unlocks detailed report feedback, including available phoneme scores for individual words.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Test 1 and its four section practices are free to start without an account. Tests 2 and 3 are previewable; Sprint, Monthly and Prep Pass unlock all full-length tests and section practices.

How is speaking scored?

Listen and Repeat receives word and pronunciation feedback. Interview responses are evaluated for relevance, fluency, pronunciation and language use. Listen and Repeat uses live sentence scoring. Interview recordings upload immediately and score in the background after section submission; interviews may take 30–60 seconds. Failed scores can be retried without credits. Read our speaking scoring rules.

How close is it to the real test?

These original practice questions follow the 2026 task types and timed section structure. Reading and Listening use a practice routing rule for a second module. This is an independent simulation, not an official ETS test or its calibrated adaptive algorithm.

What is the new 1–6 band?

The report shows estimated section and overall bands on a 1–6 scale in half-band steps, alongside a 0–30 section and 0–120 total comparison. These estimates cannot replace an official TOEFL score.

How long should I allow?

Set aside about two hours for the full practice, including setup, instructions and transitions. Section timers follow the configured test. You can also choose one section for a shorter session.

Do I need to sign up for Test 1?

No sign-up is required to start Test 1 or view its score summary. A verified account unlocks detailed feedback and lets you keep a practice history.

What equipment do I need?

Use a current browser with speakers or headphones and a microphone. Run the system check before starting. Recordings are uploaded for scoring; use the same browser to resume an anonymous attempt.

When will I see my scores?

Reading, Listening and sentence-building are checked when you request section scoring. Writing is evaluated by AI. Listen and Repeat scores return after each recording. Interview scores arrive asynchronously, and the report refreshes until submitted responses finish. The overall band appears after all four sections are scored.
